Wondering what YiP is?? At the very core, YiP (Youth in Philanthropy) is an opportunity for youth in the community (aged 12 to 19) to help local non-profit groups with grant money. YiP is for young people who envision a safe, strong community where everyone (from every culture and background) can work together. It is designed to introduce motivated young people to philanthropy and local community development. The program gives youth hands-on experience working as a team and with local charitable organizations. It’s a one-of-a-kind experience.
The BRCF has an allotted amount to spend each year and the youth get to research the various organizations in our community and then decide where the allotted funds will go. They essentially operate as a “mini foundation”. There are some minor fundraising projects where youth will volunteer as well other opportunities they can choose from (ie: helping at local events, etc).
The premise behind YiP is that the youth gain value from being involved in the community. They build teamwork skills, leadership skills, etc. These opportunities benefit the community, the organizations and the youth. When youth reach grade 12, the BRCF has a number of scholarship and bursary awards available to youth who have volunteered in the community. This program is a great opportunity to build their resume to that as well. Through YiP, youth will gain skills that will last a lifetime and learn about some amazing people and organizations doing powerful work to make our community better. YiP helps everyone in our community!
Our meetings are held “in person” with an “attending online” option for those who can’t get to the meetings.
The great thing about YiP is it’s youth-led so they get to decide a lot of the direction for the group.
It’s never too late to join YiP! Youth can start any time.
